Wedding Jewels

I found an awesome site today that helps with picking the perfect engagement rings and wedding bands. Holly D'Lane shows all types of settings and bands and asks all the important questions to help you design your own dream ring. The one pictured above is one of my favorites from the site.

Electronic Announcements and Wedding Websites

Technology has changed the way people communicate about weddings. From Facebook and MySpace to Twitter and personal wedding websites and blogs. A lot of brides have even turned to the web for announcements. It saves time and money and is a fun way to send out save the dates and invitations without killing trees. Some popular electronic invitation sites are evite.com and pingg.com. Brides are increasingly turning to the web to get information out about their wedding details. You can announce your engagement and let friends know exactly how the planing is going. You can even start a website or a blog about your personal wedding decisions and dilemmas and ask friends to weigh in with what they think. There are a lot of sites out there that will host your website for around $30 - $80 a year (depending on what the website offers in the package). The Knot hosts one and there is Wedding Toolbox and WedQuarters along with a plethora of others. Or you can start a blog for free with a blog hosting site such as blogger.com

The Wedding Party

The Wedding Party
The Palace Hotel
Saturday, January 24th 2009
10:00am - 4:00pm

Last Saturday I went to The Wedding Party at the Palace Hotel. It was put together by The Wedding Library and spanned the second and fifth floors. Throughout the day they had a Colin Cowie book signing, bouquet making demonstrations, a band showcase, and a fashion show.

Some vendors that specifically caught my eye were Bernard Maisner (an amazing calligrapher), One Girl Cookies, Bride's Head Revisited, Tejani Couture Fashion Jewelry, The Glacier Group with their amazing bourbon cocktails, Oliver Cheng Catering, and Ron Ben-Israel cakes. I tasted one of the most magnificent cakes I have ever had from Ron Ben-Israel. It was a citrus cake with Grand Marnier and cranberry and lime frosting. It was amazing. There was also a private jet company called Bluestar Jets. I spoke to them a while about their services and was surprised to find how relatively affordable it is to charter a flight. Very interesting a good news for those wanting to have a small destination wedding!

A More Interactive Guestbook

Rent an old-school photo booth from photoboothscrapbooks.com for your reception and have your guests take black and white snaps of themselves. You can even get a scrapbook coordinator who will put things together and arrange for guests to write a little note next to their strip of pics, creating a fun and interactive guestbook!

For the Busy Bride...

Everyone hates writing those tedious, time consuming, handcramping thank you notes. Well, RedStamp.com has developed a loophole; you simply email the company a list of names with corresponding addresses and gifts as well as a few short phrases on how you plan to use the gifts and they will handle the rest. AMAZING! They do feminine or masculine handwriting and hand-addressed envelopes. Turnaround time is 2-3 weeks and the service is $5 a card, which doesn't include the stationary.

Feathers!

A huge trend this season is feathers. They can be used in the hair, in boutonnieres, in bouquets, on the gown... they're everywhere and I love them! They can have a modern feel or you can go for a vintage look, which I'm a HUGE fan of. I particularly love feathers when they are coupled with birdcage veils. I found Castle Bride has a lovely selection of both the modern look and the vintage look. Another place you can find a plethora of feathers and vintage pieces is Etsywhich is a site where you can order anything customized and handmade.

Trash the Dress Photo Sessions

I absolutely love this idea! It sounds so horrible to trash your wedding dress, but in all actuallity, it's not as bad as it seems. "Trash the Dress" refers to ruining your dress, mainly in bodies of water, for sake of some kick ass pictures. Usually pictures are taken of the bride in her wedding dress in a pool or the ocean. Some of these sessions are also shot in city scapes, which are gorgeous too. One of my favorites can be seen at Trash the Dress it was shot in Bali by Mango Red Photography. I think this will become a huge trend in the future.
